COMIX cover, with - well a comics story ....

Comix is a monthly comic promotion magazine, with lots of news about the creative force of bringing comics to the market. This month they have a nice MARVEL themed SW cover. The article is about the new (old) home of the STAR WARS franchise back to MARVEL. Nothing too deep, sadly the love and effort DARK HORSE has put into the STAR WARS SAGA is not praised enough (probably because of lack of knowlege/passion) - anyway I´m not complaining....Due to it´s limited run this will be a tough mag to get.

BACKISSUE No 55 - STAR WARS at DARK HORSE

Though this magazine is from 2012, I just found it these days - and boy, am I glad I did!!!
BACK ISSUE by itself is a treat! What a wonderful magazine covering all things comics, their creators and histories behind characters and stories. Twomorrows Publishing is a specialized publisher, who does exactly that: Celebrating comics and graphic novels at it´s highest level. If you are somehow drawn to comics - and who isn´t (well, at least if you are a SW fan and / or magazine collector) THIS is a magazine worth checking out!
They offer everything online and you can choose between a printed and/or a digital copy.
Back to No. 55 - well THIS IST THE ULTIMATE STAR WARS ISSUE! Twomorrows covers everything worth mentioning about each and every STAR WARS DARK HORSE comic - what a ride!
I can honestly say this is the best, most interesting read concerning STAR WARS I had this year! Period! Best of all: You can grab a sneak peek directly here - and do yourself a favor - buy the digital copy of No. 55 (and after that - support them and subscribe ;-) ) At least, that is what I did! Enjoy!

Welcome back  Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie!

It´s been a while, but DARK HORSE and Lucasfilm have finally decided to go back to the STAR WARS origins and the original timeline of A NEW HOPE!

It has just been announced that DARK HORSE will start a new SW comic series in January next year focusing at this area - finally!  For more news check out the DARK HORSE web site or read the first look here at the OS9 web-site!

This new cover art is by acclaimed comic artist Alex Ross!

I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE OF STAR WARS COMICS! - It´s name: CHRIS SCALF

DARK HORSE
STAR WARS - PURGE

Gee Whiz - after checking out the artwork of DARK HORSE - PURGE I can only say one thing: OUTSTANDING! I ´m a reader of SW comics - well, since forever (!) - and I really enjoy all kind of styles. But this one - you have to see it for yourself! Imagine a STAR WARS comic where each and every panel is just like a painting! That´s exactly what PURGE is - a comic were all panels are a painting with a very dark and very cool Darth Vader story. The artist behind all this: CHRIS SCALF. Never heard of him ? Me too, but this will change!
Chris seems to be one of those best kept secrets, as he is around as an artist and designer for about 20 years! But it took these nice guys at DARK HORSE to draw him to the world of STAR WARS - and he delivers! Ok, now give this guy a contract and let him tell us new stories ASAP - I can´t wait for the next one!

Speaking of great comic artists: Dough Weatley and Jan Duursema used to be my favourites for years BUT there is a new contender! And a very welcome one!

If you want to now more - check out his website!

New German SW magazin

PANINI released a new SW magazine aimed at the younger reader. Basically it´s a German version of the Dark Horse Clone Wars Comics (Fillbach Brothers) but with a lot of own added content, like posters, quiz games and merchandising news. As an added bonus it comes with an inflatable lasersword(!) - well, I guess you don´t have one of those ;-)

FCBD 2009

Another year - another great Free Comic Book Day! And this year - finally - again with an awesome STAR WARS issue - I love those specials ;-) I don´t know about your experiences, but this year was EXTREMELY busy (well, at least in the LA area) and after 1 pm there wasn´t hardly any SW comic available any more. So, be prepared for next year: FCBD is becoming more and more mainstream from year to year! And that´s what it is about, right? Congrats!
This image shows the 2nd (flip) cover of the SW issue - nice!

Visit FCBD for more news - it´s worth it!

FCBD STAR WARS issue returns!

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY is coming back and after 2 years of NO special STAR WARS piece (after all these great issues) DARK HORSE is finally back with a new (maybe exclusively, but that´s not a given) comic. As you all hopefully know, FCBD ist a great way to make some noise about comics (in the US and more and more in Europe as well) - check out the FCBD website and be patient: The comic will be published May 2nd!

CLONE WARS monthy comics in the UK

It looks like TITAN has changed their SW comic series from it´s regular look to a more CLONE WARS oriented theme. It also starts with a new no. 1 - Makes sense from a marketing side. My personal view? I think it´s wrong going the CLONE WARS way all the way down with loosing a direct link to the original STAR WARS. The same happens here in Germany - everything looks pretty much kids friendly / Clone Wars oriented in sparkling candy colors ;-)
I´m not sure if I´m wrong about this, but checking the web site seems to prove me right...

MAD meets STAR WARS - again...

Everybody knows the MAD magazines, right ? Back than in the seventies and eigthies the MAD parodies of the current movie and TV hits were always very funny to read. In the 30 year long history of the movies, MAD always stayed close to the STAR WARS franchise. Now, at the 30th SW anniversary MAD gives us a complete roundup of all their STAR WARS madness - meaning 6 movies and lot of funny moments the MAD way. Best of all - there will be a foreword by George Lucas himself! The paperback shall be available later this year (October) The Vader /Alfred E. Neumann cover is still hilarious...
