EMPIRE does the only real thing...

How to celebrate STAR WARS 30th anniversary - the EMPIRE way ? After pleasing fans for years with exiting STAR WARS cover collections and excellent articles, the question is not easy to answer. Especially if you look back at the outstanding coverage EMPIRE used to publish. But... they did it again! To celebrate the 30th anniversary EMPIRE comes up with not only 2, 3 or 6 covers - NO - they come up with T H I R T Y!!!! How cool is that, ladies and gents? I still cannot believe it, but I love you guys!

Making of STAR WARS

I love anniversaries! Coming to our Galaxy right now is this new book from J.W. Rinzler telling the amazing backstory of Georgs little movie handmade in 1976/1977. This is certainly not the first book covering the production of our all time favourite movie, but the background stories, details and rare pictures (after all these years) alone are well worth a close look. The reviews are awesome, so what are you waiting for?

MAD meets STAR WARS - again...

Everybody knows the MAD magazines, right ? Back than in the seventies and eigthies the MAD parodies of the current movie and TV hits were always very funny to read. In the 30 year long history of the movies, MAD always stayed close to the STAR WARS franchise. Now, at the 30th SW anniversary MAD gives us a complete roundup of all their STAR WARS madness - meaning 6 movies and lot of funny moments the MAD way. Best of all - there will be a foreword by George Lucas himself! The paperback shall be available later this year (October) The Vader /Alfred E. Neumann cover is still hilarious...

SFX celebrates 30th anniversary

You can always count on the British press guys. Featuring a very cool silver gloss cover (which unfortunatly is hardly scanable) the UK starts celebrating STAR WARS already. The cover headline promises ´unseen archive pics!´ - well and indeed you find some of the rares seen moments of SW history. Good job!

GAMEINFORMER unleashes STAR WAR nextgen game

Just like SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE (back in 1995) Lucasfilm is planning a new STAR WARS media event this year - read all cool new merchandising stuff (books, game, figures) without a movie ;-) I´m fine with that and STAR WARS: The force unleashed looks like a pretty cool concept - can´t wait! The Art of Ralph McQuarrie - THE book!

starwars.com has just posted a very interesting feature of a book covering the ONE AND ONLY RALPH McQUARRIE !
Finally the man behind all the those classic STAR WARS artworks gets a book covering and honoring all of his outstanding work! And best of all you can get a signed copy from the man himself! Gee, I´m a lucky guy! Remember Ralph was the one who painted the very first STAR WARS images (after discussions with George) as well as most of the production paintings for Episode IV, V and VI!
Limited to a total print run of 2000 copies, most of these will be a clothbound edition with dust jacket and printed slipcase that will retail for $125. A few ( 250 copies ) will include an additional illustrated page signed by McQuarrie, prequel concept designer Doug Chiang, and ILM's Ken Ralston, and will be fitted into a special cloth slipcase.
Finally there is a high end deluxe edition for $ 750 - well, I´m totally happy with the signed version - can´t wait until the release date in April!
To order visit the official website from Ralph McQuarrie itself... worth a visit!

I hope the publishing world will honor this outstanding anniversary with loads of new saga coverage! After a very quiet 4th quarter in 2006 my expectitions are a lot higher for this year. Let´s see...
